For NSWALC, I consistently designed across their social media, print and poster work. My strongest piece was the signage for their May 2026 Land Rights protest in Hyde Park, Sydney, held to oppose the NSW Government’s Crown Land Management Amendment Bill 2026. The Bill had been described as “minor” and “procedural,” but it carried serious implications for Aboriginal land rights.

The challenge was making a complex legislative issue land instantly with a crowd marching through the city, on camera and in the press, while staying true to the NSWALC brand. For inspiration, I looked back to the history of the movement, and drew inspiration from a particular an archival photo of from a NSW Land Rights Protest in 1981, featuring the original “Land Rights Now!” hand-lettered banner carried through the streets.

I wanted the new signs to carry that same urgency and sense of storytelling continuity, so the simple style was reinterpreted in NSWALC’s branding. Short, punchy messages such as “Land Rights for Future Generations NOW!”, “Our Land Rights Matter” and “Keep Land Rights Strong” sat on a high-contrast system drawn from the colours of the Aboriginal flag.

The result was a cohesive, highly legible set of placards that unified hundreds of marchers and connected today’s fight to the generations who came before.
